This post was supposed to be shared on the day I launched The Favour Studio.
But when the pandemic happened, I had to make behind the scenes changes to make sure I could launch.
Those last-minute changes were time-consuming and stressful, and to manage everything I decided to abandon my blog.
Now that the world is slowly trying to get back to some kind of normality and I have built a bit of a routine running my business,
I felt it was time to finally start writing. To share the story and ideas behind The Favour Studio.
This is the updated version of my original first post.

A letter from the founder: Introducing The Favour Studio

After months of preparations and countless hours of research and planning, it’s such a pleasure to finally introduce The Favour Studio to the world.

The Favour Studio is an online gift shop, offering a highly curated selection of products from independent brands. With our beautifully wrapped presents, we want to create a wonderful gifting experience. And to do that, we take care of everything. From the gift wrapping to handwriting your card, we want to help you give something special to your loved ones, whether they are close by or far away.

A Little About Me

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Celine and I’m the founder of The Favour Studio. Coming from a family of small business owners, I’ve always wanted to build my own business. In the last few years, I worked as a freelancer and I spent most of my free time learning all I could about ecommerce. Running a (small) online business requires you to be a jack of all trades: from bookkeeping to marketing to stock management, these are all important aspects and I wanted to learn as much as possible about it.

So I read blogs & books, took courses, watched videos, and listened to podcasts. I loved listening to stories from small business owners. Where their ideas came from, how they built their businesses, I learned so much from hearing their stories.

I’ve always loved discovering unique items from small brands. Pieces that you won’t see pop up everywhere around you. Items that were created with passion, dedication & craftsmanship by someone who dedicated their life to building their dream business. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean I never shop at big chains, because I do. But I strongly believe it’s important to support small independent businesses too. And I don’t think one should exclude the other.

The Idea Behind The Favour Studio

At the end of summer 2019, while I was brainstorming ideas to finally launch my own online store, I realised how difficult it was to find small brands online. I discovered plenty of new brands when I was looking for stories from small business owners, but only after spending a lot of time searching for them. I had never come across any of them before on social media.
In a crowded online world, it’s hard to stand out. Especially if you’re a small business.

Then, while searching for a present for a loved one, my aha moment came: why not launch a gift shop with curated items from independent brands? This way I could support small brands myself, while also helping others discover new and exciting businesses.

With that idea in mind, I created The Favour Studio’s gifting concept: gift boxes that can be shipped directly to your loved ones, nicely gift wrapped with a handwritten card. It’s the perfect way for customers to buy unique quality presents and support small businesses at the same time.

The Launch

After 6 months of planning and preparation, I was finally ready to share my project with the world. And then Belgium went into lockdown. I had planned everything out for those first few months, but this was something nobody could have foreseen. Several behind-the-scenes changes were needed to go ahead. It was stressful, but I decided to go ahead with the launch.

And I’m so glad I did because the response has been amazing. Whether it was a birthday gift or something special to celebrate the arrival of a new baby (our baby box is one of our bestsellers), for many it was the perfect way to send a gift to their loved ones during the lockdown.

So here we are, two and a half months later. It’s been quite a rollercoaster ride, but I’m so glad I decided to go ahead with the launch. From packing your gifts to receiving lovely customer messages telling me how much their friend/wife/sister/etc. loved her present, it’s a joy to do this every day. I really have found my dream job.

In the coming months, there’s plenty more to come. New collections, new brands, new products, … I can’t wait to share it with you.

For now, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you for your orders.
Thank you for your messages.
Thank you for following me on Instagram and Facebook.

Thank you all for your support and shopping small. It truly means a lot.
